TR to PR Pathway will not be Extended

Canada is not planning to extend the deadline to submit applications for the Temporary Residence to Permanent Residence (TR to PR) pathways. The Government of Canada has announced that the intake is set to close today, that is November 5. No new applications will be accepted afterward. However, all the candidates who submitted their applications before the deadline will still be able to sign in via the portal and check the submission.

Canada introduced the TR to PR programs on May 6. The purpose was to offer accessible immigration alternatives to international student graduates, French speakers and essential workers. Since Canada planned to welcome 401,000 new immigrants in 2021 as per the Immigration Levels Plan 2021–2023, the country wanted to open up more immigration pathways.

Response

IRCC wanted to welcome 90,000 immigrants via the English programs, but the situation does not seem favorable. There is a chance that the targets will not be met by the deadline. Currently, there are open spots for essential workers in healthcare jobs. The English streams allotted maximum capacity restrictions as opposed to the French streams.

The stream intended for international student graduates was closed within 25 hours of opening after the limit was reached and exceeded. IRCC ended up accepting more than 7000 extra international student graduate applications because of a system glitch. The non-healthcare essential workers’ stream was closed back in July.

According to the Canadian government, the French streams enjoyed a positive response from candidates. Around 6000 people submitted their applications through the three programs.
