Quebec Announces Immigration Target for 2022

Quebec has recently emerged as a popular immigrant destination because of its successful job market and high quality of life. Having organized many draws in 2021 to invite skilled workers into the province, Quebec is now ready to start 2022 on a high note.

Quebec made its new immigration plan public on October 28. The province has announced that it might admit a maximum of 52,500 new permanent residents next year, which will significantly boost the economy. About 65% of the newcomers will probably receive invitations via the provincial economic immigration programs. Currently, Quebec has two major economic immigration programs- the Québec Experience Program (PEQ) and the Quebec Skilled Worker Program (QSWP).

Quebec could invite 70,000 newcomers in 2022!

The public consultation held for the Quebec Immigration Planning 2020–2022 back in the summer of 2019 had established similar targets, and Quebec is en route to meeting the goals. Quebec has to admit 49,500- 52,500 immigrants next year across all its categories.

Moreover, Quebec also has the power to issue 18,000 more invitations to achieve the reach the admission levels that the federal government was unable to reach in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. In total, Quebec could be inviting around 70,000 newcomers to the province in 2022.

The maximum target of the economic category is 33,900 and it is expected that Quebec will invite most candidates via these programs. The rest of the new permanent residents will arrive under other immigration programs, family reunification procedures or as refugees. 2022 will surely be an exciting year for Quebec.
