New Youth Mobility Agreement Between Canada And Italy
While 2020 has not been the best year for immigration, countries are still making efforts to introduce new initiatives and sign new agreements.
Canada is bound to 36 countries via bilateral and reciprocal youth mobility agreements. Young adults can take advantage of this program to travel and avail work opportunities in any of these countries.

Canada and Italy already have a youth mobility agreement. Recently, both the countries came to a mutual agreement to expand the agreement so that more people have the chance to take even longer work trips.
Marco Mendicino, the immigration minister of Canada, has already signed the bilateral agreement with Luigi Di Maine, Italy’s Minister of Foreign Affairs. It was finalized on December 11, and young people aged between 18 and 35 can take advantage of the new clauses.
Effects of the new agreement:
Needless to say, the new agreement will only apply to Italians and Canadians. They will now be able to travel to the other country for a maximum of 12 months at a time. This will also apply to people who are heading to the other country for a job opportunity.
Additionally, they will be able to extend their work permits for another 12 months, meaning that their entire stay can span two years in total. This will open up a wide variety of opportunities for eligible applicants. Programs like Young Professionals and International Co-op will allow youths to gain valuable work experience.
Marco Mendicino stressed the importance of having a global approach to innovation in a media release. Exposure to newer cultures can often open the gateway for new ideas and thoughts. Canada and Italy became youth mobility partners back in 2006, and it is heartening to see that this relationship is still thriving.
