Manitoba Planning Speed Up Processing of International Credentials

Since immigrants form the core of the Canadian economy, it is always a good idea to be more mindful about choosing the most eligible candidates. Currently, the foreign credential recognition process is accurate but could do with some more speed and efficiency.

Manitoba seems to be the first province willing to take steps to speed up this process for internationally-trained applicants after they complete their submissions. The changes are related to the Fair Registration Practices in Regulated Professions Act.

While it remains to be seen whether these legislative amendments are finally implemented, there is no doubt that candidates from all over the world will appreciate this move immensely. If Manitoba can pull it off, maybe other provinces will follow.

Ralph Eichler, the minister of economic development and training in Manitoba, made an announcement regarding these proposed changes on 2nd November. They are meant to reduce obstacles for internationally trained applicants to regulated occupations, who are aiming for successful and swift registration.

If implemented, certain timeline standards would be set for regulated professions that would cut down on the registration processes. More people would be willing to meet the requirements and conduct the evaluations on time.

According to Eichler, the province’s goal in recommending these changes is to remove the barriers for eligible applicants so they can receive their license to practice and begin working as soon as possible. Most candidates who immigrate to Manitoba have in-demand skills and work experience to improve the labor market. Hence, this move will be mutually beneficial.
