Immigrating to Canada from Cameroon
Over the last few years, Canada has firmly established itself to be an excellent destination for immigrants who want to start a new life. The country has designed more than 100 immigration pathways that can be accessed by economic-class immigrants who want to come to Canada.
The number of immigrants coming to Canada from Cameroon every year was on the rise before the pandemic. In fact, the number of Cameroonian immigrants went up by 45% between 2015 and 2019. However, coronavirus is affecting the numbers significantly, and it is not a surprise considering that there are strict travel restrictions in place. Only 780 immigrants have arrived in Canada from Cameroon by the end of the second quarter of this year.
According to Statistics Canada reports, there was a minimum of 10,265 Cameroonians in Canada in 2016. Cameroon also happened to be one of the top birth countries of Black newcomers via economic-class immigration between the years 2011 and 2016.
Primary immigration options
If you are from Cameroon and are interested in immigrating to Canada, you might find yourself confused among all the economic-class immigration programs available to you.
The most common route is the Express Entry since it forms the backbone of the country’s immigration. Most economic-class immigrants secure permanent residence via Express Entry. Three federal immigration programs fall under the Express Entry system, namely the Federal Skilled Trades Program, the Federal Skilled Worker Program, and the Canadian Experience Class.
Eligible candidates are scored on the basis of their education, age, work experience, and language proficiency. The candidates with the maximum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points then receive Invitations to Apply (ITAs) using which they can apply for permanent residence.
You can also take advantage of Provincial Nominee programs that specifically cater to immigrants who can satisfy regional labor market needs.
