Express Entry Majorly Successful In 2020

--

Nobody knew how disastrous 2020 was going to be at the beginning of the year. As the months progressed, the repercussions of the pandemic became clear and it was difficult to maintain a positive attitude.

Canadian immigration had set lofty goals for itself in 2020 and ultimately quite a few of them had to be discarded because of travel restrictions. Closing the borders was a necessary step in order to stop the spread of the virus.

The low immigration levels recorded last year definitely delivered a blow to Canada’s plans. In such a dire situation, one would have expected Express Entry to take a huge hit considering how crucial it is to Canadian immigration. Surprisingly enough, Express Entry managed to record its best year in the history of the program.

Details to know:

The Express Entry performance in 2020 was nothing short of satisfactory. Canada managed to issue 107,350 Invitations to Apply among eligible Express Entry candidates. This is the highest number of invitations to ever be distributed under Express Entry in a year ever since the inception of the system in 2015.

IRCC organizes a total of 36 invitation rounds last draw. Some of the draws specifically targeted candidates belonging to the CEC and PNP since they were already in the country and would not have to travel in the pandemic.

The smallest draw of the year took place on April 16 during which only 118 candidates were invited. Overall, the figures remained steady throughout the year especially after the coronavirus took hold of the world.

However, Canada really went above and beyond in the last few months of 2020 issuing 5000 ITAs in every draw. Since the country wants to welcome 401,000 permanent residents in 2021, the draw sizes began to increase from last year itself.
