Canadian Immigration in December: What could happen?

2020 has been an eventful year, to say the least. The coronavirus thwarted many plans and forced people to adjust to this new normal. Canadian immigration had to give up on its original goals and optimize the process based on the possibilities of the year.

Now that we are almost at the end of 2020, it is time to end the year on a positive note since Canada is more or less in control of the pandemic situation.

December is surely going to be exciting with the following developments.

Express Entry: Canada is going to organize two Express Entry draws in December. The country was hosting a draw every two weeks, but the November 25 draw took place just a week after the previous round.

It is likely that the country is going to hold another draw in mid-December. Express Entry has had a successful year despite the obstacles posed by the pandemic. Canada could end up inviting more than 100,000 candidates by 31st December for the first time in its history.

PGP: The Parents and Grandparents Program was warmly received. IRCC will most likely hold the PGP 2020 draw by the end of the year since it expects chosen candidates to submit their applications by January or February 2021. A maximum of 10,000 sponsors will be invited.

PNP: Canadian provinces like Prince Edward Island, British Columbia, Ontario, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Nova Scotia are going to host PNP draws in December.

Mandate letters: Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is going to send new mandate letters before Christmas outlining the duties of each minister. His letter to Marco Mendicino, the Immigration Minister, will reveal the country’s plans going into 2021.
