Alberta Affers An Option For Reduced Quarantine Periods

Canada has made no compromises when it comes to ensuring safety for the public. The pandemic was scary, but the country managed to get the situation under control and cut down on the infection rates sooner than other international countries. Now, Canada’s main purpose is to avoid the risk of further spreading of the virus.

The border restrictions have been fairly strict ever since March. Canada has been slowly exempting certain groups from the restrictions and allowing them into the country, but all measures have been cautious so far. People who can travel into Canada are also required to quarantine for a fortnight before they can resume their regular lives. It is a mandatory requirement for everyone, irrespective of the purpose of their travel.

However, the province of Alberta has taken a step forward and decided to decrease the quarantine period for travellers by arranging for immediate coronavirus tests on arrival. This option is only available in Alberta for now.

Alberta’s measure

Alberta has decided to offer the COVID-19 tests at specific land border crossings and airports. At the moment, the program is available to foreign travellers who are coming to Alberta via the Calgary International Airport or the Coutts land border crossing. Travellers arriving from other airports will not be eligible for this option. However, Alberta will soon extend this pilot to other locations to accommodate more travellers.

Interested people need to register for the pilot at least five days before their arrival. They have to submit an online application form to make their intentions clear. When they arrive, they will be tested. If the test is negative, it will no longer be compulsory for them to complete the full quarantine period. It is important to note that every traveller should have a satisfactory quarantine plan irrespective of their participation in the pilot.
